(In case you did not appreciate/understand my thoroughly musical and exceptional intro- 1) what are you even doing here and 2) go listen to The Greatest Show and then come back, thou worthless potato).

There are two kinds of human beings-

1). Quietly watches a movie/show or reads a book and moves on with their lives

2) Devotes their non-existent souls and the rest of their worthless lives to the aforementioned movie or book by reading their wiki pages at 3 am, stalking Twitter accounts and becoming hyper-observant/obsessed moms with some obvious issues* aka me.

*We’re fine, you guys, pfft. I’m almost 56% sure that it’s totally n o r m a l.

So, last night, after I successfully managed to convince my brother to watch a musical with me (none of my friends are into musicals, as it turns out), achieved the impossible feat of actually arriving at the cinema fifteen minutes early instead of around the time when the credits are rolling and made the crucial decision of choosing between cheese popcorn or nachos- it kills me every single time- I finally watched The Greatest Showman. And ladies and gentlemen, as they say it, I have watched it and am hereby inclined to sell my soul to listening and singing tunelessly along to the soundtrack for the rest of my life with the serene ambiance of my family screaming in agony in the background. Er, just go with it.

So, without any further unnecessary ado, these are my Top 7 favorite tracks of The Greatest Showman’s soundtrack:*

[I’d like to mention that the order might change in 2.5 days due to listening to the soundtrack tirelessly but- out of the total 11 songs in the ST- this is my current favorite order of my top 7 songs].

Seven:

Come Alive

When the world becomes a fantasy
And you’re more than you could ever be
‘Cause you’re dreaming with your eyes wide open
And you know you can’t go back again
To the world that you were living in
‘Cause you’re dreaming with your eyes wide open
So, come alive!

Six:

Rewrite The Stars

How do we rewrite the stars?
Say you were made to be mine?
Nothing can keep us apart
Cause you are the one I was meant to find
It’s up to you
And it’s up to me
No one can say what we get to be
Why don’t we rewrite the stars?
Changing the world to be ours

I know you might be wondering how this song is so far down my list as it’s one of the most iconic songs in the movie. AND I DO LOVE IT. I mean, Zac Effron and Zendaya dancing??? Is??? Iconic??? But there are sO MANY other songs and it’s just hard to assign them a goddamn number.

Five:

This Is Me

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, This is me.

Ah, the lyrics of this song and the way it was expressed in the movie was just phenomenal.

Four:

A Million Dreams

‘Cause every night I lie in bed
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it’s gonna take
A million dreams for the world we’re gonna make.

Out of all the songs, I love the lyrics of A Million Dreams the most. Just watching the song in the movie was such a blessing. It was so beautiful. The cinematography was crazy gorgeous. But, man, the lyrics are something else entirely.

Three:

From Now On

And from now on
These eyes will not be blinded by the lights
From now on
What’s waited till tomorrow starts tonight
It starts tonight
And let the promise in me start
Like an anthem in my heart
From now on
From now on
From now on
And we will come back home
And we will come back home
Home, again!

This song is so surprising because I didn’t expect to like it so much when I first heard it. It was sung in a part of the movie to cheer everyone up because things were really downcast and sad so it was already such a joy-bringing, hopeful song but I think the main reason why I adore it is because the chorus ensemble of, “And we will come back home” which HITS YOU IN THE HEART EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Two:

The Greatest Show

Don’t fight it, it’s coming for you, running at ya
It’s only this moment, don’t care what comes after
Your fever dream, can’t you see it getting closer
Just surrender ’cause you feel the feeling taking over
It’s fire, it’s freedom, it’s flooding open
It’s a preacher in the pulpit and you’ll find devotion
There’s something breaking at the brick of every wall it’s holding I’ll let you now
So tell me do you wanna go?

Is this even surprising? Have you even heard this piece of art? It’s majestic. That’s the only way I can describe it. Majestic.

One:

The Other Side

Don’t you wanna get away from the same old part you gotta play
‘Cause I got what you need
So come with me and take the ride
It’ll take you to the other side
‘Cause you can do like you do
Or you can do like me
Stay in the cage, or you’ll finally take the key
Oh, damn! Suddenly you’re free to fly
It’ll take you to the other side

Yes, I know what you’re thinking. The Other Side was great but is it the top song material? To answer your question, I don’t really know. Objectively, maybe not. But I don’t care because I really freaking love this song. I love it. I love how the lyrics were slightly sassy and funny and the goddamn chorus was all it took. That, and the choreography. Hugh Jackman and Zac Effron absolutely killed it in this song. And I think even my phone is tired because of the sheer number of times I’ve heard it.

That’s it! I’ve ranted out my inner Musical nerd (even though I can’t sing for shit- see: agonized family). I wish I could watch it again. Also, I don’t even know what this blog is about anymore. Writing, books, humorous self deprecation, dragons, musicals? Just go with it.

Have you watched The Greatest Showman? If so, what did you think about it? What was your favorite song? What are some of your favorite musicals?

  1. oh my GOD this is already my favourite movie of 2018 and my favourite album/soundtrack of 2018!!!!!! I literally haven’t stopped listening to these songs since the first 3 of them came out in November! I’m SOOOOO in love with each and every one of them because they’re so inspiring and uplifting, and they always put me in a good mood! I wouldn’t be able to rank them if I’m honest because I always have a different favourite song, but right now I’m very fond of A Million Dreams and The Other Side! I’ll definitely be purchasing the DVD for the movie and watch it over and over again because it was so GOOD. 10/10 would recommend to everyone ❤

    1. I KNOW, JACKIE, SAME! It’s impossible to not feel good and tap your feet to the songs. They’re so uplifting and pure fun. Man, I was singing A Million Dreams on repeat in school because it was literally stuck in my head and I couldn’t NOT sing it. And I freaking LOVE The Other Side so much. The Zac Effron- Hugh Jackman collab we didn’t know we needed. ❤

  2. I applaud you for being able to put these songs in some kind of order, I wouldn’t even know how or where to start, haha. I feel like my favourite is constantly changing but I think at this very moment, it From Now On. But AHHHHH, I just really love this musical. I know for a fact I’ll be buying it when it comes out on to DVD and it will be played over and over again. This was such a great post to read, loved to see what songs were your favourites!
