Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

I’m pretty good at freaking out. I love books.

So, freaking out about books is kind of right up my alley.

Keeping that in mind, this tag is pretty much perfect for me.

So far this year, I’ve read 43 books so I’ve got a pretty large pool of options to choose (meaning, I’m probably going to have multiple books for a question but HEY it just means more recommendations for you).

1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2018?

My top 2 in this category are:

Although, The Art Of Feeling by Laura Tims and Kings Rising by C.S. Pacat are close competitors.

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2018?

This sequel was especially important because the 1st book in this trilogy is highly… controversial? Uncomfortable? I don’t know, but this sequel just made me truly love Damen and Laurent.

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To?

This question is so incredibly relevant right now because REAPER IN OUT AND I HAVEN’T READ IT YET? HECK, I HAVEN’T EVEN BOUGHT IT YET? WHAT AM I EVEN DOING?

I know, I know! Look, the scene is: I want to buy the book (duh) and these are the current problems that I’m facing:

  1. I’ve got the first two books in paperback so I need this in paperback too but that format is not available yet.
  2. I’m too broke to order the hardcover.

I’m trying so hard to avoid all the spoilers; if I get spoiled, I’m going to be so seriously pissed.

4. Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2018 ?

Do I even need to talk about this? No. No, I don’t.

5. Biggest Disappointment?

I’m almost scared to talk about these books because both of them are so loved in the YA world. It’s just, I didn’t not like them.., I did; but they were still sort of meh for me? I don’t even know why! Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour had all the right elements to make a great road trip story but I just didn’t get the vibes. Same with To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. I mean, I get why it’s so cute but it was kind of meh for me.

6. Biggest Surprise?

My biggest surprise is probably The Foxhole Court because I was not expecting to love it so much but I don’t want to talk about the same books again and again so I’m going to go with the next closest answer…

This was a huge surprise because I randomly found it deep down in my TBR and decided to read it. What I wasn’t ready for was how good this book is. It’s just… I don’t even know how to best describe it. It was exhilarating, funny, full of music and an incredible love story. You get John Green vibes from it but without the heartache; which was all I needed when I read it.

7. Favourite New Author?

Nora Sakavic (no, I’m not going to stop ranting about this series, stop looking at me like that), Mary H.K. Choi and Laura Tims.

8. Newest Fictional Crush?

If I have to choose just one person, then I’d have to go with Sam from Emergency Contact. I love him too much.

9. Newest Favourite Character?

Neil Josten, Andrew Minyard, Laurent Of Vere, Eliot and Samantha Herring.

10. Book That Made You Cry?

34726469

The thing is, I’m already always super sensitive whenever older brothers are involved in stories (I don’t even know why, my brother literally just hid his snacks in his drawer so that I won’t take a bite- and he’s five years older than me. Go figure). But, yes, I just sort of get emotional for older brothers. The case here, though, is the way this book is written because it was crazy good at evoking so many contradictory and complex feelings and questions about family and friends and make you feel them like you’re the prostagonist yourself. I cried quite a bit.

11. Book That Made You Happy?

Dude. How many times am I supposed to repeat the same books? Sigh. I’m going to go for the books that I haven’t mentioned yet.

12. Favourite Book To Movie Adaptation You Saw This Year?

I still have to watch Love, Simon so that could be the perfect answer.

13. Favourite Review You’ve Written This Year?

My favorite reviews:

  1. The Foxhole Court
  2. Geekerella
  3. Emergency Contact

14. Most Beautiful Book You Bought So Far This Year?

  1. Ahhh, I’m so glad I’ve found yet another person who didn’t quite love To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before! I’ve now heard a couple of people say they weren’t a huge fan, but before that, all I’d heard was praise for it! Like you said, I can see why people find it cute and all, but I just didn’t get on with it personally.

  2. I’m always so happy to find people that have read The Foxhole Court!!!! I loved every single book in that series and honestly I just want more people to read it and enjoy it as much as I did. This was a great post! You have had a great reading year so far, I hope it keeps going that way 🙂

      1. hahaha … I have been thinking about rereading the series, since I have only read it one time and I miss all the characters. Maybe we can organize a reread in the future? (Since it definitely counts as a productive thing to do! 😉)

  3. Emergency Contact has been everywhere lately! I’m dying to read it! And 43 books is pretty impressive. And it’s a shame about To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. I really liked that one but the rest of the series went pretty downhill. Great post!

    1. Thanks! Oh, you should really get on to Emergency Contact. It was so cute and funny but also, incredibly smart and emotional and mature? I just really, really love that book (if you can’t tell already).
I knowww, I wish I could have enjoyed it better and too bad the rest of the trilogy doesn’t pull through. I’m still kind of excited for the upcoming movie, tho.

  4. Lovely answers for this tag! I love Emergency Contact so, so much, it’s also one of my favorite reads ❤ ❤ I haven't read Nice Try, Jane Sinner just yet, but I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it 😀

    1. Thank you! Surprisingly, I haven’t come across a lot of bloggers who have read Emergency Contact yet so I’m so glad to hear that you loved it too! Oh, and definitely give Jane Sinner a try, it was entertaining as heck. 💛
