That Month Of Stories | July Wrap Up

Oh, man, I’ve missed this blog. Last month was busy as heck for me because school was ridiculous (when is it not) and I only published three posts but I’m back and I have so many new, fun ideas for future posts; I’m practically screaming internally (when am I not).

Also, I know I’m posting this late but my exams got over just this week so bear with me.

I did read a few books and watched quite a lot of TV this month so let’s get on to that.

1. A Court Of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Mass

   ★★★★☆

I decided to jump on to this sequel after a long time. I mean, I don’t even remember when I read A Court of Thorns and Roses. I loved it, of course, but then… the whole love triangle plot twist thing reared its ugly head and I was like-

I don’t even think I was that crazy about Tamlin; I just didn’t want the ensuing drama. I still think the trilogy was better off without the love triangle, actually. However, I decided to just read A Court of Mist and Fury and get done with all this. Imagine my surprise when I actually ended up liking it a lot? So, don’t worry, no spoilers but turns out, there is no love triangle, no Team Tamlin. Which was a relief. I enjoyed the book. I loved the “found family” aspect of it because I freaking love Cassian, Azriel, Mor and Amren. I think my favorite thing about the book was learning about Rhysand; and my favorite thing about Rhysand is that he’s such a feminist. Even though there’s a lot of “alpha male” features in the characters, Rhysand sort of personally defied that. He showed Feyre how to be her own badass person who didn’t need to ask permission to exist, he let her fight her own battles and just. I get why he’s such a beloved YA character.

2. A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Mass

  ★★★☆☆

3.5 Stars, actually.

Oh, man, this book made me root for so many ships. I just need separate novellas on Nesta and Cassian, Amren and I Forgot The Guy’s Name I’m Sorry, Mor and Whoever Is Lucky Enough To Be Her Mate, Elain and Azriel Because I’m Not Sure About Her and Lucien, Lucien and The Wayward Queen Whose Name I Have Also Forgotten. Anyway.

Things got crackling in this book. I don’t really know what else to say without spoilers because I read it nearly a month ago but I really, really enjoyed reading this trilogy. It’s definitely not my favorite but I am down for more content- which is why I’m really looking forward to the upcoming trilogy. I haven’t read A Court Of Frost and Daylight yet but my bet is that the upcoming books are going to be separate novels focusing on all of the above ships that I mentioned. And if you couldn’t tell already, I am here for it.

3. The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

  ★★☆☆☆

I think someone’s Twitter thread was screaming at people to read this book and I needed something light after all the fantasy so I just went for it. To be honest, this book might have been kind of meh? I don’t know, I just didn’t have a lot of fun reading it and I didn’t care that much about the characters, either.

4. Save The Date by Morgan Matson

  ★★★★★

Now, this was such a fun read! Okay, if you want one of those warm, messy family vibey rom-coms where practically everything goes wrong and everything is all over the place and the mc is trying to be the “damage control” then this is your book. I genuinely did not expect how much I’d enjoy this! It made me actually laugh out loud every few pages and I got so invested in the characters and the story. This is the downright definition of a light, fun summer read.

1. Brooklyn Nine-Nine- Season 1

I know. How am I just watching this? What even is wrong with me? Forgive me. I realize the truly grave mistake that I have made by not watching this piece of art earlier.

SO, yes, of course, I watched it and I LOVE IT. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SHOW. Every single thing. It’s ridiculously funny, the cast of characters is everything I need to be happy and I’m already halfway through Season 2- which is literally just as amazing.

I love Jake Peralta.

2. New Girl– Season 1 and 2

I started watching New Girl along with Brooklyn Nine Nine and finished the second season during the week before my 1st term exams because-

New Girl is so addictive. I’m not even kidding, it had me completely hooked. The cast was different and weird and Jess is this goofball, awkward character so it already had a lot of promise. I’m going to jump on to season 3 soon.

3. The Good Place- Season 1

Honestly, I think The Good Place took the crown this month. It was phenomenal.

I went into the show knowing absolutely nothing about it- and that is the best way to do it. It’s a pretty popular show so chances are that you might have either seen it/know the plot but if you don’t, then heed my advice and go into it completely blindly. I mean it. The plot goes into a lot of different, unexpected directions. And the ending. Oh my god. I’m not going to go into any detail, but the freaking ending. Holy shit.

So, that’s it! What did you guys read/watch this month? Lemme know!

  1. Yesss! Save the Date was such an unexpectedly good read! No way did I think it would be as entertaining and fun – or as FUNNY – as it was!
Also, The Good Place is just so great. I think I watched it all over a really lazy weekend way back when with Netflix on autoplay haha!

  2. Nemo!! Love ya more! I plan on reading Save the Date after I complete The Emergency Contact ( which btw has gained its own special room in my heart ) and Brooklyn 99!!! (“Asdkhejkshsbx” says my inner Fangirl)

    1. Ahhhh I’m so glad you’re reading Emergency Contact! I dare say you’re going to absolutely love Save The Date. I feel like my plan for world domination by turning everyone into readers is finally working :’). (And, yes, I’m already on the third season of Brookyln Nine Nine lol sOMEONE STOP ME).

  3. Omg you read ACOMAF! I actually felt the same way before reading it. I knew it wasn’t going to be Feyre and Tamlin and was like, ugh, what did I bother getting attached? But then Rhys happened.
    And
    I
    forgot
    my
    life.
Also, I really need to read Save the Date! I see that title everywhere lately and everyone loved it and I need a fun read so bad!

Haahaha, I do exactly the same! When finals or crazy deadlines are coming up, I marathon a new series because WE HUMAN BEINGS MAKE VERY BAD DECISIONS INDEED.

    1. I swear in my head I replied to this comment and now that I’m (finally) combing through my notifications, I’m realizing exactly how pathetic my memory is.
SAME. It wasn’t even that Tamlin was so out of the world but then the whole “why did I bother to get attached to this character and ship” complex pokes its head up. Rhys was so totally worth everything, though. Comparing Rhys and Tamlin, I’m fact, set excellent examples of toxic relationships.
As you know, my exams are going on rn and I am THIS close to starting the third book in the Darkfever series. Help.

      1. Don’t start the book! You shall resist until the end of your exams! Don’t even read a chapter as a reward for studying or you’ll never be able to stop!

Also, true, it’s kind of shocking to realize we were shipping a totally toxic relationship. Leads to a lot of introspection haha. But I still feel like SJM portrayed him much better in book 1 with just a couple of flaws, and in book 2 he’s suddenly the worst villain ever. But I guess I’ll have to reread it more objectively!

      2. You know what, I’m going to take your advice and hold my horses. I know doom when I see it.
Actually, you’re right- Tamlin was portrayed as the picture perfect, tortured hero in the first book and then his character was ridiculously twisted in the sequel. This is why love triangles done wrong affect the book so much. But at least we still have Rhys.

  4. How could you not give ACOMAF 5 stars?? *glares angrily* lol just kidding but am I really though… Ugh I have been super absent lately too because of catching up on all my summer school work (it’s September and I am commenting on a JULY wrap-up akfhbweo) and I feel so bad about missing so many posts but I am back and determined to catch up on EVERYTHING. Also New Girl is the best I love it so much–I think I’m on season 4 now?? Not sure but it’s so funny I love Schmidt the most

    1. I’m sorryyy about the 4 star thing but, you know, it was a “it’s me not you” situation 😂.
Omg SAME. School is SUCH A PAIN to handle along with blogging. I’m barely making through without having a breakdown lol. Really, though, I’m STILL working on my August Wrap Up and we’re halfway through September. And I have SO MANY ideas for new posts but when I finally get time away from school and classes, I’m suddenly too tired and drained.
      It’s ridiculous.
Oooh, Schmidt is a sweetheart. I can’t wait to get on to Season 4 now.

      1. Ugh tell me about it—I’ve only been in school a week, I’ve already gotten sick and have had two mental breakdowns, but I’m trying to write my posts beforehand now instead of the day they’re supposed to go up, so hopefully that’ll help me 😂😂
